Crystal Casters: Book 1 Book Review
Cyndra Raine is just a regular woman trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, alternate universe Earth. She’s doing a pretty good job until a mysterious package arrives from her grandfather followed quickly by a strange man who tries to take it from her. Her powers, long repressed, start to emerge, and she has no idea what to do with them, but she does know that, whatever happens, she has to leave her quiet village if she’s going to stay alive.
Thus commences her journey to hell in a handbasket . . . well, not really, but there are moments when she probably feels that’s what’s happening. Luckily for her, Zorin, a hunky bat-winged man, comes to her aid when she’s being attacked and helps her beat back some wraiths who are bent on absorbing all of her life force.
He makes promises to fill her in on the true history of their planet and how it became the way it is if she helps him. With few other options, and more than a little intrigued, she agrees.
Soon, they find themselves needing each other, even if they aren’t willing to admit it. As they face obstacle after obstacle, the truth about what created the current world and what their purpose is in it reveals itself.
In her quest for truth, she meets up with another crystal caster. All three must join forces to save not only themselves, but the world as they know it.
My review of Crystal Casters
Jenn Nixon has written a fast-paced adventure that kept me turning the pages. She has created a world that is foreign enough to fascinate, but similar enough to not need long-winded explanations. The characters are multi-faceted, likable, and flawed . . . the best kind. And while this book is the first of a series, it stands alone. I am seriously hoping book 2 is on its way soon.
If you’re a fan of magic, mayhem, romance, and adventure, I highly recommend this book.
