Welcome to Books Worth Your Bucks! This is an ongoing blog hop with fellow authors to introduce Indie or small pubbed authors to our readers. Each Friday, we will spotlight an author’s book, give buy links along with the links to the other authors participating in the hop, and say why we think this book is worth your bucks.
Part of our reasoning to do this is to bring more attention to the Indie authors we love to read. With so many books out there now, it’s hard to figure out what is a good, well-written book…or not. Keep in mind, these are our opinions, things we like to read.
Today, I review MIND: Book 1: The Beginning by Jenn Nixon.
Book Description of MIND: Book 1
After Dina Ranger loses telepathic contact with her twin brother, Duncan, she breaks into his apartment and stumbles onto a special government unit responsible for monitoring the psychic population. She’s offered a job where she can use her psionic gifts to help people.
Stranded on earth over a hundred years ago, Liam of Shria is searching for a metal needed to repair his ship when he finds Dina inside an alien escape pod and narrowly saves her after she trips the alarm.
As the mystery and their relationship deepens, Liam helps Dina learn the truth behind her abilities while uncovering a plot to rebuild an ancient weapon, exposing dangerous secrets about the alien presence on earth that may change the future forever.
Review
After reading MIND: Book 1: The Beginning by Jenn Nixon, I understand why this science fiction series is a bestseller.
Dina has been running from her powers for years. She just wants to be normal, but she’ll never be normal. It’s a good thing, too, because, when her psychic link with her twin brother goes silent, those abilities come in handy. Finding her brother, though, stirs up a hornet’s nest that will require all of her abilities (some know, others yet to be revealed). Luckily, she meets Liam, a hunky alien with all the right moves and the technology that can help them solve the mystery.
Dina and Liam are instantly drawn to each other, but, of course, it’s never that easy. (grin)
Liam, while alien, is pretty much a dream man. He’s lived a long time, but his race have much longer lifespans than humans. This means, he has a lot of wisdom, but he’s still young for his people. Not only is he wise, but he’s hot and sets her pulse on fire.
The banter between the characters is fun and brings a lightness to the book that would’ve been lacking otherwise. The sexual tension, suspense, and plot twists keep this book moving at a steady clip. Before I knew it, I’d finished the book.
Every so often, I did want to slap Dina because of her tendency to runaway. I tried to remind myself that, perhaps, if I’d been born with such powers, lived among the regular populace, and had to keep them secret, I might feel the same way. It’s hard to say. I think many of us dream of having such powers, but would we really want them? Yeah, to be honest, I don’t know.
Final Word on MIND: Book 1
It may be the first of a series, but these appear to be standalones. If I’m going to read a series, this is how I like them.
When all is said and done, I highly recommend this entertaining, hot, science-fiction romance. It looks like I know which book I’ll be reading next.
